DarkRP is a multiplayer game mode in Garry’s Mod which holds lofty ambitions. The general idea is that you join a multiplayer server which takes place in a map resembling a town, or a business district, or whatever, and choose a job to work: ranging from policeman to gangster, to chef, to gundealer, to scientist, etc. The hope is that in the process of carrying out your job, roleplay will occur (although hopefully not THAT kind of roleplay), stories will evolve and you’ll engage in player-created scenarios and drama in a way few games can even come close to reaching. Review: Hotline Miami

You step out of your car, your face shrouded beneath the rubbery latex of an animalistic mask, warm and sticky. You crane your neck backwards and gaze up at the multi-storey building standing in front of you. Each floor is packed with a crowd of violent, murderous criminals, and you’ve been hired to kill every single one of them. Counter-Stike: Source (featured), CS 1.6, CS: GO

I’ve played hundreds of hours of Counter-Strike: Source and the vast majority of those have been spent running around the narrow corridors and snowy courtyards of cs_office. It’s a minor miracle that each round remains engaging, especially as the starting conditions are exactly the same each time around. “Surely there’s only so much of one map a person can play,” the uninitiated might argue. Neotokyo is a multiplayer total conversion modification for Half-Life 2. An FPS set in a future dystopian Tokyo, it focuses on clandestine battles between two political factions known as the Jinrai and the NSF.
