Super Smash Brothers: Room for Improvement?

As the release of Nintendo’s Wii U grows ever closer day by day, it brings with it the promise of a new Super Smash Bros. title at some point during the console’s lifespan. Considering that Super Smash Bros. Brawl was not hugely dissimilar to Melee in terms of scope, many will be excited to see what kind of improvements will come along with the Wii U’s increased hardware power: the detail of the models and stages, the size of the roster, the range of game modes, the quality of online play.

And whilst these possibilities are quite exciting, I’m a little more interested in how Nintendo will handle some of the finer, less tangible details – many of which will likely not be all that easily communicated via press release screenshots or promotional trailers. Continue reading

Review: Hotline Miami

You step out of your car, your face shrouded beneath the rubbery latex of an animalistic mask, warm and sticky. You crane your neck backwards and gaze up at the multi-storey building standing in front of you. Each floor is packed with a crowd of violent, murderous criminals, and you’ve been hired to kill every single one of them. The vast city of Divinity’s Reach serves as the capital of Kryta, home kingdom of the humans of Guild Wars 2. The capital looms over the starting zone of Queensdale and cuts an enormous, imposing figure, surrounded by gigantic stone ramparts and bulwarks, with towers, turrets and other structures shooting up into the sky from the city within. Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow

As a kid, I’d always hated it when an NPC left the game world after finishing a certain task. It kind of felt like they’d gone on to some cool new corner of the world without me, and left me behind here in what could sometimes feel like a prison, what with all the invisible walls and boundaries around the place.
